Yeah...it's November. And November means... *drumroll* National Novel Writing Month. Yes, folks, and if you're not participating I suggest you try it out - a little late this year, but for next year? Why not. Try it. It's very fun - frustrating if you don't have a plot, and quite a challenge if you're serious about reaching the 50,000 word goal set - in one month.
I'm well on my way, and I hope to complete my novel this year. It's called The Great Big Expanse and I have to say, I'm a huge fan so far. It's like, I sit down and start writing, and then all of a sudden I get these plots just jumping off the page at me, and I don't know what to do with them all. I seriously have too many. Which is the craziest thing ever.
I have, I believe, four plotlines going. No. Four major plotlines. Then there's now at least three subplots. I have part one partially completed, there's going to be two parts total. I get the feeling this story is going to be way more than 50,000 words - the question is, if I get to 50,000 in the target month...will I hurry up and finish writing the book, or will I just give up and procrastinate, and never do anything with it?
Of course, knowing me, I'm much more likely to do the latter - anyone else like that? If you have a deadline, or something cool to work for, like winning NaNo, you're all gung-ho. But the minute there's a requirement put on, or else you have forever to do it...things just don't get done. Happens to me all the time. It's a strange phenomenon, I must say.
In news in my world...well, my birthday came and went, another year gone. My little sister's birthday also came and went. And I'm going to see Wicked on Sunday. And I can. Not. Wait. Seriously, I am SO excited, I mean, I love the soundtrack. It is amazing and brilliant. I have all the songs memorized. All of them. Like, even Madame Morrible's parts. And the extras. Everything...I can recite pretty much any line from any song.
I have the vocal selections - I'm covering it in voice, and right now I'm singing Defying Gravity and Popular, probably two of the greatest songs in the history of this musical. Of course, they're all good - I don't know if I'd ever be able to pick a concrete favorite. There's just too many, and they're all absolutely brilliant...
I started reading the book but I got halfway through and then somehow I never wound up finishing it - which is weird, because I always finish books. I have no idea why I didn't finish it, I have every intention of finishing it. I just didn't - so now I'm debating. Do I reread Wicked to keep me busy Saturday before we go on Sunday, or do I wait and read it at my leisure another time? This is a prime example of not doing something - I know I should have read it, and I could perfectly well have made the time, but I decided to read and reread other books that just wound up taking precedence.
And now I'm off to bed....
